First attempt to login using mid-level cache failed, later succeeds
On the first attempt to login using a mid-level cache on a particular node, the connection failed. In this case, the mid-level cache was created, but the code path meant the gem did not recognize it. Trying the connect a second time would succeed.
Workaround
Retry the connection a second time.
