PassiveObject stream operations require Legacy stream protocol

GemStone/S 64 Bit includes two stream hierarchies, the Legacy and Portable.
PassiveObject stream protocol can only be used with the Legacy stream
protocol.

Workaround

Creating PassiveObjects based on strings rather than streams is more performant
and does not rely on Portable or Legacy Streams.
